Mini Camp is a 6 week program tailored to presenting and teaching basic skills to players in a fun atmosphere of games and activities. Our goal is to have the young players learn soccer skills to “master the ball” while playing fun games. Ultimately these interactive activities will be presented in a manner that your player won’t realize they are training for soccer when in reality they are always having a ball on their foot learning dribbling, passing, and shooting!
The Spring Mini Camp has been very well received by the community. We are very appreciative of the strong support and attendance. Attendance has typically been 60 – 80 young players. The Spring Mini Camp is located at the Woronoco field and Roots Soccer complex and is held on Friday evenings.
The Mini Camp is structured and run in a manner to follow US Soccer Best Practices for the age group.
Each week the session is lead by a licensed adult coach. Westfield FC at times will also invite guest coaches to introduce new ideas and games. We freely allow these coaches to share information about camps and programs to enhance the development of the players.
The core of our coaching staff is our teenaged “Coaches in Training”. All of our coaches freely volunteer their time. These fantastically dedicated young people are our team coaches. You will see them take hold of your young players and bring them together as a team.
The majority of the teenagers take part in a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) coaching course where they learn the first steps in organizing and presenting fun filled soccer training. After completion of the course each participant receives a certificate from the NSCAA.
Westfield FC takes this approach to coaching our teams to allow the teenage coaches the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. The best part about these young people is that they want to be here and want to help teach the soccer skills within our community.
Our intent is that your young player will see the same coaches each week. Unfortunately, each week your player may not have the same team coach. Many of the young coaches play spring sports at the high school, play on Westfield FC teams, and for the very dedicated older teens have begun to work. Your player will always have a coach. We are so very proud of the number of volunteers and their level of participation in our program.
We are hopeful you embrace this approach and support the growth of these Coaches in Training.
Each team will have their own team coach(s). We meet on Friday evenings.
Please plan on being there approximately 10-15 minutes early. The Mini Camp administrator will have the roster with names, game schedules, and field assignments.
Please have your little one bring water and a ball. They MUST wear shin guards. Dress appropriately for the weather. We will play rain or shine. Cancellations will be posted on our facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/WestfieldFCMA). Have them dress in layers with a t-shirt next to their skin and long sleeves on top of short sleeves. If they are wearing sweat pants have them wear them OVER their shorts. As the kids heat up from running they will peel their clothes off and as they cool down they will put them back on. Socks go over the shin pads.
LABEL EVERYTHING. There will be limited lost and found.
Please bathroom your child before they come onto the field. There may be no facilities on the field.
Mini Camp Refund Policy
At Westfield FC we strive to provide you and your player the best environment to learn and enjoy the game of soccer. If you are not satisfied with the program in which your player is participating, you must notify the administrator prior to the beginning of the third session in order for Westfield FC to provide a full refund of the registration fee. Upon a refund, no further participation will be allowed. No refund will be allowed after the start of the third week session in which your player is participating.
